Lung cancer remains a serious problem and a difficult cancer to cure.  According to American Cancer Society statistics, it remains the number one cancer killer in the United States for both men and women. And though nearly 220,000 new cases were estimated to have been diagnosed in 2009 alone, early detection programs and smoking cessation initiatives have had a substantial impact and improved cure rates in the last decade.

Improvements in surgical techniques, radiation therapy and chemotherapy continue to make gains in cures as well.  At Advanced Radiation Centers of New York, technologies such as Respiratory Gating, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) are being used to effect improved cure rates and lower side effects.
