Radical Prostatectomy for Prostate Cancer

A radical prostatectomy is a surgical procedure in which the prostate gland and some of the neighboring tissue is removed. This is one of the treatment options for patients with prostate cancer. The operation can be performed either as open surgery, laparoscopically through the belly button, or through robot-assisted laparoscopy. The main goal of a radical prostatectomy is to surgically remove all of the cancer in and around the prostate.
